A record-breaking donation from a Terrace couple has new mothers and infants in the northwest one step closer to improved health care.
During Riverboat Days, the Dr REM Lee Hospital Foundation received the largest personal donation in their history, though the amount was not disclosed.
Through the cheque books of community mainstays Lynn and Bryan Gascon, that donation will go towards the Closer to Home fundraiser.
It aims to raise $14.5 million to bring the northwest’s first Tier 3 Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit to the new Mills Memorial Hospital.
That would allow mothers experiencing complicated pregnancies and their children to get care closer to home, rather than being sent out of town.
Lynn lauded the care she’s received from Mills over the years, and says she can’t imagine a more impactful way to thank the community.
Together Lynn and Bryan have run the Terrace Canadian Tire for two decades.
