With the deadline to send in nomination packages now behind us, a picture of next month’s municipal elections is becoming clearer.
In Terrace, only incumbent Councillor Sean Bujtas ended up putting his name forward to replace out-going mayor Carole Leclerc.
But, the race to fill the City’s 6 council seats is shaping out to be much more competitive, with 15 individuals, including 4 incumbent councillors, vying for the spots.
Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth will also see no competition on his way to another term in the top spot.
Just 3 incumbent councillors are among the 10 names looking to fill the District of Kitimat’s 6 council seats.
At least one community in the northwest will see a race for the mayoral seat, however, as four candidates look to step into the position vacated by Lee Brain.
Among them are Chrystopher Thompson, Jason Hoang, Stephen Fitzpatrick, and ex-Mayor Herb Pond.
While they may see the most eventful mayoral race, Prince Rupert will also see just 8 candidates vying for their 6 council seats.

This year’s elections will take place on October 15th, with campaigning beginning on September 17th.
