BC’s Independent Investigations Office is looking to determine whether or not police actions are to blame for an injury sustained while in custody in Burns Lake.
Just before 6:00 in the evening on Thursday, RCMP were called out to a disturbance at a residence on Tibbets Drive.
When they arrived on scene, they had one woman arrested and transported to the Burns Lake detachment.
But before they could assign her a cell, an altercation broke out between the woman and police.
After suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries, the woman was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services the next morning.
Now, the IIO have launched an investigation in to the events which led to the altercation, and whether or not police actions are to blame for the injury.
