Fresh provincial funding will help to bring new homes to Tŝilhqot’in territory, using wood grown right at home.
$1 million in grant funding is being provided to the Yuneŝit’in Government to help complete their forest-to-frame concept.
That concept will see local community members involved in every stage of the process, from harvesting the wood, to building the homes.
Funding will go toward improving the Yuneŝit’in’s new sawmill and woodworking enterprise, Leading Edge, located in Horsefly.
With the funding, they will be able to establish a new on-site kiln, equipment to more safely treat wood, and insulated structural panels.
