Sergeant Steve Ackles has been named as the recipient of the 28th annual Conservation Officer of the Year Award.
Ackles, who last served in Prince George, was given the award posthumously after passing away due to illness in March of 2021.
Having been with the Service since 2005, Sergeant Ackles served many communities during his time, including Nanaimo, Port Alberni, and on Vancouver Island.
A former COS Society President, Ackles also served as a Predator Attack Team specialist, and has a student award named in his honour given out through the Vancouver Island University Foundation.
He is remembered asa n enthusiastic officer, and valued mentor and supervisor, with a love for protecting wildlife, fish, and the environment.
