Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson honoured Earth Day today with the ceremonial launch of the Two Billion Trees program.
Officially launched last year, the federal program aims to plant two billion trees over the next decade.
Through this they hope to mitigate the impacts of climate change while promoting biodiversity, and achieving Canada’s conservation goals.
In its first year last year, the program signed agreements to plant 30 million trees at more than 500 sites across the country.
Designed to incrementally plant more trees each year, the program aims to be planting 250-350 million trees annually by 2026.
