A total of 22 projects will split the joint federal-provincial funding through the BC Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund.
Of those projects, 18 are led by or conducted in partnership with First Nations, and all support the monitoring and planning processes necessary to understand all the factors affecting salmon populations.
Just over $175,000 will go to the Kitsumkalum First Nation to develop ways to maximize salmon survival and populations in the Skeena watershed.
Enhancement and restoration planning for Kleanza Creek will be the focus of $561,000 in funding for the Kitselas First Nation.
Nearly $850,000 will go to the Office of the Wet’suwet’en to initiate a research program to restore Morice Sockeye populations and diversity.
And the Gitanyow Huwilp Society will get $950,000 to enhancement options to rebuild the stock of Kitwanga Sockeye salmon.
