Construction on the new Stuart Lake Hospital in Fort St James is now set to begin next month, thanks to a new agreement.
A design-build agreement has now been signed between the province and Graham Design Builders LP, paving the way for construction to start in May.
At a $158 million price tag, costs for the new hospital are split between Northern Health and the Stuart-Nechako Regional Hospital District.
Built on the same site as the existing hospital, the new facility will feature 27 beds, including 18 in long-term care, an expanded emergency department, and trauma and ambulance bays.
Once the new facility is finished, the old, 12 bed building built in 1972, will be demolished to make way for parking.
Construction is set to begin next month and wrap up in 2024.
