Ottawa has announced fresh funding to 17 organizations looking to address on-going violence against Indigenous Women, Girls, 2 Spirit, and LGBTQ+ people.
Those organizations, three of which are in British Columbia, will split $1.4 million in funding through the new Federal Pathway.
That Pathway aims to provide support for Indigenous-led data projects, which will collect and provide disaggregated and distinctions-based data on the root causes of violence.
In doing so, it looks to fulfill portions of 7 of the Calls to Action made in the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Organizations in BC receiving funding include: the First Nations Health Authority, Carrier Sekani Family Services, and the Okanagan Nation Alliance.
