Rogers Communications has deployed two new cellular towers, which will help bridge the connectivity gap along Highway 16.
This Spring, the company plans to officially break ground on 3 of the 12 towers planned between Prince George and Prince Rupert.
For years, users of the infamous stretch of road, dubbed the Highway of Tears, have demanded better connectivity along the road.
Over the years, countless Indigenous women and girls have gone missing, or been found murdered along the 725 km stretch of road.
In December of last year, Rogers broke ground on the first of the towers, which look to fill 252 kms of service gaps.
Once completed, the two newly deployed towers will cover 26 of those kms.
In November, the company also announced a partnership with Coastal First Nations which will bring 5 more towers to Haida Gwaii, connecting another 100 kms.
