Training is on the way to help build Haida Gwaii’s tourism and hospitality sector, thanks to a new, provincially funded, set of courses.
A total of $250,000 is being provided to the Haida Enterprise Corporation to run the courses, via a new Community and Employment Partnership.
Through that partnership, 16 individuals will receive nine weeks of occupational and essential-skills training for various tourism and hospitality related positions.
Students will also benefit from two weeks of on-the-job experience with local employers, and an additional week of follow-up support.
Courses are offered through two intakes, one which will see students trained in Old Massett, and one for Skidegate.
For the Old Massett intake, the program will start on April 11th, and run through July 1st.
In Skidegate, the program will run from July 4th to September 23rd.
