Canfor is reducing shift schedules at 11 sawmills in Western Canada, due to on-going supply chain issues.
According to the forest product producer, the issues have left them with unsustainable inventory levels, which must be addressed.
While they did not specify which mills will be impacted by the scheduling cuts, they predict them to be in place for at least 4 weeks.
During that time, the effected mills will drop one day of production, resulting in a 4 day week, as opposed to 5.
Canfor says that employees will be reassigned, rather than lose their jobs due to the temporary cuts.
In addition, transportation shortages are forcing the extension of curtailments at Canfor Pulp’s Taylor Pulp mill.
That will lead to a minimum six more weeks of reduced production of the mill’s BCTMP pulp.
