In an announcement from today, the Northern Secwepemc First Nations will be receiving $4 million in funding in order to help them build a new cultural centre.
The Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society will be taking the lead on this project to build a permanent cultural centre and museum that will display the history of the Northern Secwepemc.
This centre will also look to serve as place for community members to share all the traditional knowledge of their culture via multiple programs such as Secwepemc language revitalization.
The creation of this centre comes in part thanks to the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which requested for all Indigenous women and girls to have meaningful access to their cultures and languages.
