Hoobiyee celebrations are set to kick off tomorrow in the Village of Gitwinksihlkw.
Events will be hosted at the Ts’oohl Ts’ap Memorial Centre between tomorrow and Saturday.
While the Centre will be at full capacity, all existing Covid mandates and public health orders will be followed.
That means attendees will need to show their vaccine card to get in, and will need to remain masked while attending.
Only dance groups on Nisga’a lands will be participating, including: Gingolx Cultural Dancers, Laxgalts’ap Cultural Dancers, Gitwinksihlkw Four Crest Dancers, and Gitlaxt’aamiks Ceremonial Dancers.
Dance groups from all other communities are encouraged to join in dancing in their respective communities.
Hoobiyee is a celebration of the waxing crescent moon, representing the new year, held in the latter part of winter annually by the Nisga’a Peoples.
Last year’s celebration was forced online due to pandemic restrictions.
Full information on restrictions in place can be found at this link.
