Tomorrow is the deadline set by Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs for financial institutions backing the Coastal GasLink project to pull their funding.
Chiefs made three demands during a February 25th meeting with leadership from the Royal Bank of Canada, and City National Bank.
Those demands included: immediate revocation of financing and loans, an agreement to not provide CGL future services, and a follow-up meeting prior to their deadline.
That deadline was set for tomorrow, and so far, there has been no official word offered by RBC.
RBC is one of the major financial players in the nearly $7 billion project and a shareholder in TC energy, CGL’s parent company.
Yesterday, CGL announced a new partnership agreement with 16 First Nations councils along the pipeline route, giving them a 10 percent stake in the project.
Those Nations all come from the 20 who have existing agreements with CGL along the 670 km route.
But, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs say they were never consulted, and have been a strong opposition to the project since its inception.
