In a battle that had been waged since 2019, the community of Kitwanga appears to have gotten what they wanted from BC Hydro.
The dispute in question, was that BC Hydro was charging Kitwanga for some street lights that had either been removed or just never existed to begin with.
In 2019, Kitwanga found out that they were paying BC Hydro as if they had 42 lights while only having 39 in reality.
BC Hydro initially offered a credit to pay the community back that would cover payments from 2017 to 2019 but Kitwanga found that the over-payments date back all the way to 2000.
So instead, it appears that BC Hydro’s credit will instead cover the payments from 2000 all the way to 2019.
These payments are expected to be made over a monthly period until it’s all paid back.
