Delays in the Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society’s efforts to pay out their treaty gift allocation have drawn the attention of a former Nisga’a Lisims electoral officer.
Rhonda Peal, a former Chief electoral officer of the Nisga’a Lisims government, said in a statement that the society did not pay out their treaty gift money amount of $2,500 to registered Nisga’a residents when they stated they would.
Peal also says the society did not notify anyone until after the choice to delay the payment to December 22nd had already been made.
According to Peal, other local Nisga’a areas were able to get their payments on December 16th, the initial agreed upon time.
Staff at the Gitlaxdax Nisga’a Terrace Society say they are working diligently to obtain banking information and get the payments out as soon as possible.
The Terrace area serviced by the Society’s distribution center is the third most populous, and they are asking for patience.
You can contact the Society if you are having issues at 250 635 8050.
Some members are also experiencing issues cashing their cheques at Royal Bank of Canada branches.
According to them, payments are being delayed until Friday to verify funds, and only partial payments are being made immediately available.
If you are experiencing this problem, some members have had success getting the bank to contact the Credit Union.
