British Columbia is once again introducing new restrictions in an effort to stem the rapid transmission of the Omicron Covid variant.
This newest set of restrictions is in addition to those announced on Friday, and will take effect tomorrow and run through January 18th.
Indoor organized social events and gatherings of all sizes, including things like weddings and parties, must be cancelled.
As per Friday’s restrictions, small personal gatherings of up to 10 people, or one additional household, are permitted, though all attendees must be vaccinated.
Concerts, sports venues, and theatres will be reduced to 50 percent of seated capacity, regardless of venue size.
Gyms, fitness centres, and dance studios will be closed, as will bars and nightclubs.
Tables at restaurants, cafes, and pubs will be limited to a maximum of 6 people with physical distancing and barriers in place.
In addition, vaccine cards and masks must be used at all public events and gatherings.
According to Dr Bonnie Henry, the new measures are an effort to buy time to prepare as they continue to understand the Omicron variant.
