Mayor Walt Cobb is hoping to sit down person-to-person with Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellers to discuss their concerns in person in the new year.
The Williams Lake politician faced a slew of backlash after sharing a social media post asking to look at the other side of Residential Schools.
That prompted an open letter from Chief Sellers in response, which led to the City’s counillors denouncing their Mayor’s actions.
But during a Council Meeting this week, Cobb and fellow Councillors, shared their desires for meaningful reconciliation in the new year.
At said meeting, Council received a staff report reviewing the City’s efforts towards reconciliation to this point.
That report referenced their commitment to following the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
But multiple councillors stepped in to remind everyone that actions speak louder than words, and that’s what they want to see moving forward.
