A BC Supreme Court ruling from Monday has found a man not criminally responsible for a fatal 2018 stabbing.
In July of 2018, Kristopher Edward Leclair turned himself in to RCMP following the double stabbing involving his aunt and her husband.
Leclair’s aunt survived, though her husband, Michael Potter, was not as lucky.
Leclair was eventually charged with counts of attempted murder and second degree murder.
But Leclair’s defence argued that the incident was the result of his schizophrenia, an argument which satisfied the Courts on Monday.
Leclair had been admitted to Hospital numerous times, even having been diagnosed with drug-induced psychosis.
His family also has a history of struggling with schizophrenia.
Though he was found not criminally responsible, Leclair was ordered to be confined to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam.
