Just one day after the Assembly of First Nations announced they were baking out of a trip to the Vatican, the rest of the delegation has followed suit.
Due to concerns over the emergence of the Omicron Covid variant, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops have called off the trip.
They say they are in talks to reschedule the Papal visit, initially scheduled for December 17th to the 20th, for early next year.
Delegates from the Inuit and Métis were set to join 13 delegates announced by the Assembly last week.
While there was no formal item on the agenda, delegates were looking forward to an apology from the Pope for the Church’s role in Canada’s Residential School System.
A Papal visit to Canada is also expected for some time next year, though a date for that trip has not yet been determined.
