BC’s Transportation Minister, Rob Fleming, has put out a statement saying that there has been progress made in reopening some of BC’s Transportation routes, which were damaged by November’s big time flood and storm combination.
However, the Coquihalla Highway, an important route for getting access to BC’s interior, is going to be completely closed until the late part of January after many of the route’s areas were damaged.
Fleming also stated that rail traffic that goes through the Interior on a path to Vancouver has started up again for the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways, the Highway 99 route from Pemberton to Lillooet got reopened after a second slide happened in the area, and the Highway 7 route between Agassiz and Hope got reopened to non-essential traffic.
Fleming also mentioned that the only major open route right now is Highway 3 into the Interior and that traffic on that route is only open to commercial vehicles.
The provincial government has also not yet released a damage estimate for the floods and the slides aside from saying that it will be very expensive.
