Food Waste Collection Coming to Kitimat, but Bringing Some Changes to Collection Schedules

Curbside food waste collection is starting in Kitimat in January, and residents should be receiving their green bins soon, if they haven’t already.

Beginning on January 4th of next year, the District will begin their food waste collection program, though it does bring some changes to be aware of.

Food waste will be collected on a weekly basis, while garbage and recycling will be collected on an alternating biweekly schedule.

Residents will be provided with both a large green bin and a smaller kitchen catcher, but only the green bin should be left out for collection.

Thanks to the District’s new truck, waste will be collected in the same vehicle, and be separated in to designated compartments inside.
