A mass exodus has left the District of Wells with no Mayor, and only one Councillor.
On Friday, Mayor Gabe Fourchalk announced his resignation, citing a conflict of interest pertaining to his job with Barkerville Gold Mines.
Earlier in the month, Councillor Chris Cooley announced his upcoming resignation, and fellow Councillors Ksenya Dorwart, and Jordan Rohatynski, have also tendered their resignations.
Despite the departures, the District went ahead with their regular meeting last night, with Mandy Kilsby, the final remaining councillor, serving as acting mayor.
A by-election to find a replacement Mayor must now be held no later than mid-February.
