Starting next year, every employee in British Columbia will be entitled to 5 days of employer paid sick leave each year.
Permanent sick leave has been a topic of contention for years, but the Province introducing 3 paid sick days during the pandemic elevated the conversations further.
A survey launched by the province drew in more than 60 thousand responses, which were used to advise the final number.
Labour Minister Harry Bains says that, while some of those responses wanted more, and some less, 5 days is a sustainable median.
All workers in BC covered by the Employment Standards Act will be entitled to at least 5 paid sick days annually, beginning January 1st of 2022.
