A new contract means the cleanest LNG export facility ever proposed could soon see “proposed” removed from that statement.
Woodfibre LNG has signed an Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction contract with McDermott International.
Under the contract, McDermott will manage the onshore construction process, checking off a key box for the project’s advancement.
By taking advantage of low-carbon resources in BC’s Montney Region, the woodfibre plant aims to reduce global emissions by 3.5 million tonnes per year.
That is the equivalent of removing 5 percent of BC’s annual emissions from a single project.
During the height of the construction phase, the project is expected to bring more than 650 jobs, with a mandate to hire local.
Pre-installation work is planned for next year, with a target construction completion date in Q3 of 2027.
