In honour of Addictions Awareness Week, Carrier Sekani Family Services is launching a new campaign, and bringing light to some other issues.
CSFS’s Youth Services Team is running a campaign titled #BreakTheStigma, aimed at shedding light on youth struggling with addictions.
During the campaign, stories of lived experiences will be shared, and supporters will wear red wristbands as a reminder to accept and support those struggling through addiction.
They also serve as a reminder that it is always okay to seek help.
But, the non-profit organization is also shedding light on funding issues which are preventing them from helping as much as they’d like.
CSFS has been unable to expand their programming beyond seasonal work due to a lack of government funding and commitment.
For more than 20 years, the group has been lobbying the provincial and federal governments for funding for a permanent Healing and Treatment Centre.
Now, the CSFS Chiefs have sent a formal resolution to the governments for funding to fulfill their responsibilities and fund the project.
BC is on track to shatter last year’s record for toxic drug overdose deaths in the province.
