With all the tragedy in the news surrounding the confirmation of the unmarked graves of Indigenous children across the country, myself, as a journalist, was struggling to figure out how to cover what was going on, while still being cautious of the impact of the stories I share, and how they may hurt survivors and their families.
That’s why I reached out to our guest tonight, Kelsie Kilawna, a reporter from Indigi-news, who is currently working on a resource for journalists to help them think more critically about ethics in their reporting, based on Trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices.
In our interview, Kelsie will talk about why she jumped into action to create this guide, how we can support her in getting this much-needed resource out there, as well as the importance of holding media outlets and individuals accountable for the what they put out to the public.
