Two landmark Prince Rupert hotels are entering a new chapter following their acquisition by a partnership that includes local First Nations development organizations and a Yukon-based hospitality company.
Northern Vision Development LP (NVD), together with Lax Kw’alaams Business Development LP and the Metlakatla Development Corporation, has announced the purchase of the Inn on the Harbour and the Pacific Inn.
The acquisition marks NVD’s first investment in British Columbia. The company says the partnership is built on collaboration, community stewardship, and a shared commitment to supporting local economic growth.
According to the new ownership group, the hotels will continue operating as important community assets while helping strengthen local employment opportunities and the tourism sector.
NVD Chief Executive Officer Michael Hale said the company is honoured to invest in Prince Rupert and work alongside Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla. He noted that partnerships with First Nations have been central to the company’s success in Yukon and will continue to guide its approach in Northwest B.C.
Metlakatla Development Corporation CEO Ryan Leighton said the acquisition represents both economic diversification and a significant investment in the local community. He added that the partnership is expected to support job creation and contribute to a stronger tourism industry.
Lax Kw’alaams Mayor Garry Reece and council also welcomed the investment, saying it reflects a commitment to creating long-term opportunities for members while helping grow the regional economy.
The new owners say they are committed to honouring the legacy of longtime operators Jack and Cindy Payne and Stephen Smith, who helped establish the hotels as key parts of Prince Rupert’s hospitality sector.
