Last week’s federal budget announcement included $4.3 billion towards Indigenous housing over the next 7 years.
Today, Indigenous Services Minister Patty Hajdu gave more details on the shape that funding will take.
Over the next 5 years, $2.4 billion will go towards housing on First Nations reserves, and $565 million to support housing in Self-Governing and Modern Treaty Holder First Nations communities.
Over the full 7 years, $845 million will support housing in Inuit communities, and $190 million will do the same for Métis communities.
A further $300 million will be invested in to the development and launch of an Urban, Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy.
