Imperial Metals and the Williams Lake First Nation have renewed a participation agreement covering the Mount Polley Mine.
Initially signed in 2011, the agreement was in place at the time of the disastrous tailings dam breach in 2014.
But the Nation says the agreement gives them a seat at the table to provide their insight and inform the mine’s activities.
It also lays out employment requirements, economic opportunities for the Nation, and allows them to more easily audit environmental impacts and resource extraction.
Plans to re-open the mine following the 2014 disaster are underway, with operations possibly restarting as early as this year.
