Changes are on the way for those looking to take their snowmobiles for a spin at Call Lake Provincial Park.
Earlier this month, a consultation and review regarding snowmobile use at the Park, located east of Smithers, wrapped up.
According to the results, snowmobile use exceeded stated park management objectives, impacting conservation values, and creating public safety concerns.
More than 150 responses were received, with some highlighting concerns over user conflict, safety, noise, and environmental impacts.
However, the results also revealed that fully prohibiting snowmobile use was not a beneficial solution.
Therefore, the province has instead decided to implement a one-year pilot project, requiring snowmobilers to acquire a free, annual authorization, beginning in December of this year.
Over the next few weeks, BC Parks staff will be reaching out to community members to discuss guidelines and expected behaviour under the authorization.
