Multiple Federal Ministers have issued a statement regarding the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Figures such as Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Daniel Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, made sure to reiterate their commitment to taking a stand against racism and discrimination.
A big part of this stand for the ministers has been their mission to eliminate racism against Indigenous peoples in health services and a principle known Joyce’s Principle has been touted for leading the way in this area of work.
It was also noted that the ministers are working with Indigenous people to address the many problems caused by Residential Schools as the finding of many unmarked graves at former school sites serve as a reminder of all the suffering caused by these institutions.
Another highlighted program is the Cultural Spaces for Indigenous Communities program, which was created last year and is being used by the government to prevent more Indigenous peoples from becoming victims of crime.
