Williams Lake Councillor Ivan Bonnell is looking for clarity from the City on how councillors should conduct themselves.
Currently, the City has no formal code of conduct for City Councillors, something that hasn’t been much of an issue until late.
But, when the City received a letter from Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellers last month, things changed.
That letter called for Mayor Walt Cobb’s resignation after he shared a post on his private Facebook asking people to look at the other side of Residential Schools.
Bonnell says that, without a formal code of conduct, it is hard to tell whether such an action goes against the oath they all take when becoming Councillors.
Said oath calls for them to not allow their private interests to influence how they conduct public matters.
During their last regular meeting, Bonnell put forward a motion asking for City Staff to develop a code of conduct for councillors, which was unanimously supported.
