A semester in and the reviews for Coast Mountain College’s new, culturally-inspired, student housing building are glowing.
Named Wii Gyemsiga Siwilaawksat, the building first opened its doors to students this semester.
It replaced four decade old student housing with brand new housing adorned with Indigenous artwork and structural designs.
Thanks to a nearly 19 million dollar investment, the new building offers 108 stdent rooms, an Elder suite, shared kitchen and collaboration areas, and more.
Artwork featured on the walls and in the hallways were crafted by alumni and students to represent the distinct cultural and physical landscape of Northwestern BC.
Students say the new building has improved their quality of life, both socially, and academically.
According to residents, the building is a significant improvement over previous options and inspires a safe, like-home, environment.
