According to a new report, very little progress has been made in the year since a report in to Indigenous levied racism in the health care industry was completed.
That report, titled In Plain Sight, revealed widespread racism and discrimination against Indigenous Peoples in BC’s system.
It brought forward 24 recommendations for improving the system, all of which the province accepted.
But, after one year, only 7 of those recommendations have seen any progress, and the rest have seen little, if any action.
Mary EllenTurpel-Lafond, who authored the original report, says that the inability of governments to work together has slowed progress.
She says many of the recommendations have been stuck in bureaucracy, with officials unable to determine who should be on, or lead, committees.
Turpel-Lafond does acknowledge, however, that important progress has been made, just nowhere near enough.
