Terrace RCMP are warning businesses to take a closer look at money before accepting any bills.
The notice comes as Mounties investigate multiple reports of counterfeit cash making the rounds recently.
Investigators say people have been trying to use fake bills, particularly U.S. currency, and sometime getting real money in its place.
If it’s been awhile since your business had counterfeit training with its staff, now might be a good time to go over some of the important things to look for before accepting bills, especially for higher amounts,
said Terrace RCMP Staff Sergeant Michael Robinson in a news release.
Terrace RCMP advise employees suspecting counterfeit cash to politely refuse the money and call police right away.
For uncommon bills, such as foreign or older Canadian currencies, police say its a good idea to ask for a second opinion from a manager or a local bank.
RCMP say training materials are available to help retailers through the Bank of Canada.
