A fire burning northwest of Fraser Lake has more than doubled in size over the weekend.
The BC Wildfire Service says the Shovel Lake fire is now estimated at 880 hectares in size, up from 291 hectares when officials issued a news release about the fire Saturday.
The fire is burning north to northeast and smoke is highly visible in the surrounding communities like Fort St. James, although the flames are still 70 km southwest of the district.
The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako issued an evacuation alert for an area near the fire Sunday.
There were 41 personnel on the ground Sunday with help from heavy equipment and air support.
Crews have managed get the wildfire 40 per cent contained and more help is on the way.
