The Assembly of First Nations opened its 39th Annual General Assembly in Vancouver today.
In his welcoming address to chiefs and delegates, BC AFN Regional Chief Terry Teegee talked about what needs to happen in order to make the term “reconciliation” meaningful.
Wednesday, chiefs and their proxies from the 634 First Nations communities will elect a new national chief.
The candidates are current nation chief Perry Bellegarde, Russell Diabo, Katherine Whitecloud, Miles Richardson and Sheila North.
Each candidate is scheduled to speak to delegates Tuesday afternoon.
