Season two of Ocean Warriors: Mission Ready premieres Thursday, January 8 on APTN, offering viewers a closer look at the Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary (CNCGA) across the Quatsino, Nisga’a, and Gitxaala territories. The 13-episode series, produced and directed by Leo award-winning filmmaker Steve Sxwithul’txw, follows dramatic search-and-rescue missions along BC’s rugged coast while highlighting the Indigenous culture, language, and traditions of these communities.
In an interview with CFNR News, Sxwithul’txw described his experience filming in the remote Gitxaala territory: “This is a small community, but enough to where you know its one big happy family over there. They really get along with each other and we were welcomed with open arms for the week plus that we stayed there.”
The series also emphasizes the importance of traditional knowledge in rescue work. Sxwithul’txw explained, “They know these waterways like the back of their hands, so having that is really beneficial to any rescue situation.” Episodes showcase how community members balance modern search-and-rescue operations with the stewardship of their natural environment and cultural heritage.
Season two is available in both English and Nisga’a, with same-day streaming on APTN+. Tune in to witness thrilling rescues, explore pristine coastal landscapes, and celebrate the resilience and leadership of Indigenous Ocean Warriors.
