Fort St John RCMP report that a two-vehicle collision north of Pink Mountain on December 8 resulted in two fatalities and one serious injury. The crash involved two tractor-trailer units. A 74 year old man and a 21 year old man, both from Alberta, were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third man was transported via ambulance to the Fort St John airport before being airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities say poor road conditions, blowing snow, and limited visibility were contributing factors in the head on collision. The names of the deceased are being withheld at this time. The RCMP and BC Coroner Service continue to investigate the incident.
Fort St John RCMP warn residents that the Alaska Highway between Fort St John and Fort Nelson remains hazardous. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in the area and to exercise extreme caution if travel is required.
