A 7.0 magnitude earthquake had struck Alaska over the weekend near the border with British Columbia and the Yukon.
Earthquakes Canada says the quake happened 1:41pm this past Saturday, December 6th, with an epicenter about 248 kilometers west of Whitehorse and 91 kilometers north-northeast of Yakutat Alaska, at a depth of about 10 kilometers.
The Alaska Earthquake Center confirmed that as of Sunday afternoon, December 7th, they had registered over 180 aftershocks of 3.0 or more on the Richter scale, while Earthquakes Canada confirmed they had recorded a 5.3 magnitude aftershock, and had received reports from local residents in the Yukon that the quake had knocked things off their walls and shelves.
Authorities in the Yukon have been checking for damage to Energy and Transportation infrastructure, with none reported so far.
There had been no tsunami threat associated with the quake.
