Caledonia Performing Arts is set to present the satirical musical UrineTown at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre from December 4th to 6th. Directed by Graham Wojdak, the show blends dark comedy with social commentary, tackling issues like capitalism, bureaucracy, and environmental responsibility. Tickets are available at Misty River Books or at the door.
Wojdak, who has directed 11 high school musicals, says the show was chosen for its engaging themes and democratic approach to casting. “Everyone gets a chance to be heard and seen on stage and the cast, the group of them, they hardly ever leave. They are there all the time,” he said. With a large chorus and 30 performers, including 15 first-time participants, the production ensures that everyone has a meaningful role and plenty of stage time.
He hopes audiences will enjoy the comedic elements while also reflecting on bigger societal issues. “No one is innocent. We are all part of the problem, but on the flip side, we’re all part of the solution,” Wojdak explained. Rehearsals have emphasized both professionalism and mentorship, giving young performers the chance to grow while keeping the show polished and entertaining.
UrineTown promises a lively and thought-provoking experience for the whole community, combining laughter, music, and a reminder that each of us plays a role in shaping the world around us.
