Esk’etemc First Nation is proud to announce that Kukpi7 Fred Robbins has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, recognizing his leadership, long-standing dedication to community, and his ongoing work to strengthen relationships and advance Nation-building. Robbins was nominated for the honour by Assembly of First Nations National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak.
The Coronation Medal is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions or achieved outstanding accomplishments within their communities. For Kukpi7 Robbins, the recognition arrived during what he described as a challenging year for Esk’etemc, marked by the loss of many Elders. Their passing, he says, has been deeply felt, making this honour an uplifting moment during a period of mourning and reflection.
Robbins has spent decades learning from his Nation’s knowledge keepers, shaping his commitment to supporting and empowering future generations. His work includes a leading role in the development and promotion of Orange Shirt Day, as well as the co-creation of First Nations curriculum on residential school education for students in grades five and ten. He hopes this medal inspires emerging leaders to step forward for their communities in the spirit of healing and progress.
In acknowledging the award, Robbins dedicated the honour to his family, his community, and past and present leadership, recognizing the support of his staff and his loved ones. Esk’etemc leadership, Elders, and community members have extended their heartfelt congratulations, celebrating the continued strength and resilience of their Nation.
