On Saturday January 4th at 1:03am Prince Rupert Fire Rescue responded to a fire in a duplex on the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue West. Fire crews arrived on site to find flames venting through the front doorway and living room window, with the fire extending into the attic of the upper site.
Fortunately, all residents were able to evacuate safely, and the fire was contained to the upper suite. The lower suite suffered some water damage. Firefighters along with RCMP, PNG BC Hydro and Emergency Social services worked to control the blaze and protect surrounding properties.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but it’s not believed to be suspicious. No injuries have been reported.
