The Smithers RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating 73-year-old Timothy Bakanec, who is wanted in connection with a fatal collision in Smithers on October 20, 2021. The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Highway 16 and 16 Avenue, resulted in the death of one driver and significant injuries to a passenger. Bakanec has been charged with driving without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Authorities urge Bakanec to turn himself in to a local police detachment. He is described as a Caucasian man, 5’7” tall, weighing 172 pounds. Police do not have a photo of him. Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police.
