A pair of BC United MLAs are urging the Province to answer the pleas of Northwesterners by establishing a detox centre in Terrace.
Despite the Northwest consistently recording the highest rates of illicit overdose deaths in BC, the closest detox centre is in Prince George.
For years the Northern First Nations Alliance have advocated for a centre in Terrace to address the lack of treatment options in the region.
Last year, the First Nations Health Authority provided the Alliance with funding to undertake a feasibility study.
Completed in February, the study emphasizes the need for a culturally appropriate and holistic health and wellness detox centre in the northwest.
But, despite that, the Alliance has been unable to acquire any level of funding support from the province to build a facility.
Now, Vancouver-Langara MLA Michael Lee has penned a letter to Mental Health and Addictions Minister Jennifer Whiteside requesting just that.
His letter comes with the support of Skeena MLA Ellis Ross, who first introduced the proposal to Lee prior to meeting with the NFNA.
