John Wayne Adams, former fire chief of Kitimat, B.C., has passed away at the age of 85. Adams, who served 25 years in the fire service before retiring in 1999, died on March 12 in Penticton. Known for his dedication to training and leadership, Adams was highly regarded by his colleagues. He was a hands-on leader, often creating detailed training tests for his crew. Adams also served as president of the Kitimat Firefighters and Paramedics Union for many years and was the first fire captain to retire from the department. Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth expressed condolences, praising Adams’ bravery and commitment to the community. Adams is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters. His legacy as a dedicated public servant and leader will be remembered by those who knew him.
