A team of investigators has been deployed by the Transportation Safety Board after a tour boat sunk off the coast of Haida Gwaii earlier this month.
On September 10th, the MV Island Bay sunk after becoming unstable while moored in Carpenter Bay, on Moresby Island.
All of the seven passengers who were on board the vessel at the time were rescued and brought to shore before the boat, which was on its final trip of the season, sank.
But, in the wake of the incident, local organizations, including the Council of the Haida Nation, became concerned over the possible environmental fallout.
A Canadian Coast Guard vessel was deployed to set up a containment around the area, incase oil or diesel fuel began to leak.
So far, the measures appear to have been successful, but the TSB has decided to send a team to Prince Rupert to gather information, regardless.
