During the second year of BC’s commitment to surgical renewal, the Province has reported that their volume of surgeries managed to surpass the amount they were doing before the pandemic.
This Saturday will mark the second anniversary of BC’s commitment to surgical renewal.
As of March 31st of this year, 99.8 percent of patients who had a surgery delayed during wave 1 of COVID and then still wanted it were able to get it, 96.2 percent of wave 2 and 3 delays got their surgery and 78.9 percent of wave 4 and 5 delays got their procedure done.
52,216 urgent scheduled surgeries and 201,880 non-urgent scheduled surgeries were able to be completed over the past year.
The Province was also able to create seven initiatives that increased operating room time and capacity as well as reduce the wait list for non-urgent cases by 5.9 percent last year.
